Good. I've been analyzing Heavy Breathing's, or "Ape's" (rather) "The Neutered Noel", which is a collage of images streamed quickly stopping at a few points to show an image that becomes twisted and then it resumes. You probably have seen it, but you should if you haven't.

I find that there is a "short story" to the long menagerie of motley images which reduce to basically these things: iconic images of yoga, specific individuals engaged in some sort of "cultural moment", animals (usually with their young, often in some container such as a basket), mean-looking biting insects, peeling away of outer layer of something or other, usually some meat pate looking loaf, torture images (often of Chinese torture of Falun Gong, the spiritual iconography again, also), children in rather awkward situations a-la pizza/ice-cream/baby car seats. That's one set that just came to mind. I looked back at it and found more. Someone clubbing a seal, a black music group posing with black/white plaid jackets, some sort of fancy marriage bed, paradise scenes, humiliation scenes, females doing yoga/playing music/looking innocent/smiling, children associated with "sugar babies" candy in costume (or pizza, or ice cream, as already mentioned), images of Coloboma, Ghosts (costume, cookies), Angels Camp California (frog and gold are prominent), child posing in mouth of large prop of human face, a stack of pancakes with syrup, He-Man Costume, woman posing with Popeye costumed person, image of Wonder Woman done by a child, animal cookies on a tray (frog, duck, rabbit, tiger, butterfly, pig, elephant?), man laying down playing guitar to 5 little kids laying on a giant paper plate, puppies in a cage, same kids in the baby seats again but seemingly in some distress, wacky magician old man with black/white striped pants doing gesture with top hat and white-gloved hand in a glowing green hallway, child in woopie cushion costume, and some dweeb trying to pose as an angry strong man with his mouth open and eyes shut, and probably a few I left out that don't fit into one of the categories mentioned or also have a special description deserving of unique mention.
ReplyDeleteIt is a very ugly set of images, as one can imagine, not only for the content of each frame, but also because of their arrangement in sequence relative to one another, the contrast or implications of each and also in relation to one another, the particular subject matter and their contrast and implications (innocence, torture, the young, containment, predatory luring and seduction, cultural hiding in plain sight, being organized, hiding behind "stalking horses" pretending spirituality and goodness but being instead evil and harmful, people who seem innocent and trusting, cruel abuses, nourishment, fun, unusual places, that sort of thing).
So I think by looking at these images through these lenses, one can recognize patterns just through the visuals alone, which suggest that a group of people are involved in trafficking children and other victims so that they may be converted into commodities to satisfy the lusts of perverse and sadistic people, often under false pretexts that would resemble only a benign intent. And there seems to be an overall smirk of boastfulness about it.
The music seems to have a sickening way of pointing up an atmosphere of frenetic chaos (keeping pace with the passing images) which settles on a single tone of sound at intervals which last each about 2-3 seconds (when a singular image is distorted by image alteration). The tone sounds like it wants to be upbeat but also disquieting at the same time.
That's the first 40% of the video. Then the Ape in the red mask tells a story to two "kids", also in masks, and it seems like Ape is being subtly malevolent while using the sickeningly sweetish paternal tone of voice resembling what a witch with a gingerbread house might if she were luring Hansel and Gretel. That's the overall ugly of it.
